Jack Maheu
Jack Maheu, born on May 1, 1930, in Troy, New York, was an American clarinetist
and bandleader. He studied clarinet at Syracuse University and co-founded the
Dixieland band Salt City Five in 1951. In 1957, Maheu joined the Dukes of
Dixieland, recording eight albums with them before forming his own band in 1959.
He moved to Marco Island, Florida, in 1988, co-founding the Paradise Jazz Band,
and later to New Orleans in 1990, where he toured with Al Hirt. Maheu's career
spanned over five decades, participating in 73 recording sessions between 1954
