Ivete Maria Dias de Sangalo, better known as Ivete Sangalo, was born on May 27,
1972, in Juazeiro, Bahia, Brazil. As a schoolgirl, she was drawn to the world of
music, and began singing as well as learning the guitar. She made her stage
debut at the age of 20 in Ondina, Salvador, and in August 1992 won the Dorval
Caymmi trophy, considered the Grammy of Bahia music. The following year, she
joined the axé group Banda Eva and became its star, earning her stripes as a
