Hy Zaret was an American lyricist and composer who was born as Hyman Harry Zaritsky in New York City, U.S., in 1907. He achieved early professional recognition in 1936 with the pop standard "Dedicated to You", co-written with Saul Chaplin and Sammy Cahn, and is famous for writing the lyrics to the 1955 hit "Unchained Melody". Originally written with the musician Alex North for the film Unchained, the track became one of the most-recorded songs of the 20th century and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song (1956).
