Hugh Ragin, born in Houston, Texas, is an American jazz trumpeter. He started
playing trumpet as a teen and was part of the Houston All-City High School
Orchestra. Ragin earned degrees from the University of Houston and Colorado
State University. His career took off in 1978 with studies at the Creative Music
Studio under Roscoe Mitchell, leading to performances at the Moers Festival. In
the early 1980s, he toured with Maynard Ferguson and joined David Murray's band.
