Henry Robert Hall, born on May 2, 1898, in Peckham, South London, was an English
bandleader and composer. He studied at Trinity College of Music and initially
worked as a copier for the Salvation Army before serving with the Royal Field
Artillery during World War I. His career took off when he became the musical
director for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway hotels in 1923. Hall's
breakthrough came in June 1924 when he persuaded the BBC to broadcast the
