Hemlock Ernst
Samuel Thomson Herring, known professionally as Hemlock Ernst, and born on April
13, 1984, in Morehead City, North Carolina, is a singer, rapper, and actor. He
began his music career at age 14, participating in freestyle battles and
cyphers. In 2003, while attending East Carolina University, Herring formed the
performance art band Art Lord & the Self-Portraits with colleagues. Some members
of this group later founded Future Islands in 2006. Herring took a break from
