Grant Stewart is a Canadian jazz saxophonist born on June 4, 1971, in Toronto. He began playing the alto saxophone at age ten and was invited to play professionally in the Pete Schofield Big Band at age 14. He switched to the tenor saxophone at age 17 and performed with musicians including Pat LaBarbera and Bob Mover before relocating to New York City at age 19. Stewart studied with Donald Byrd, Barry Harris, and Joe Lovano and performed with musicians including Clark Terry and Jon Hendricks.
