George Brunies

Jazz
George Clarence Brunies, also known as Georg Brunis, was born on February 6, 1902 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He began playing music at age eight, starting with the alto horn in Papa Jack Laine's band before switching to trombone. By 1921 he moved to Chicago and joined the New Orleans Rhythm Kings, becoming a key member of their house band at Friar’s Inn. Brunies' technical skill was evident in his tailgate style, which influenced many musicians. He joined Ted Lewis's band, where he performed until 1934 and later performed regularly at Nick’s jazz club in New York City until 1938....
