Gate, a Norwegian progressive folk‑rock group, was formed in Trøndelag in 2000
by violinist Sveinung Sundli, who also handled keyboards. The ensemble initially
included vocalist Gunnhild Sundli, bassist Gjermund Landrø, drummer Martin
Langlie, and guitarist Magnus Børmark. Their debut EP Gåte appeared in 2000,
followed by a second self‑titled EP in 2002, and the breakthrough album Jygri
the same year, which achieved commercial success in Norway and Germany and
