Gary Smulyan, born April 4, 1956, in Bethpage, New York, is an American jazz
musician who plays baritone saxophone. He studied at Hofstra University before
embarking on his professional music career. Smulyan's early breakthrough came
when he began working with Woody Herman. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Smulyan
released several albums, including Homage (1992), Saxophone Mosaic (1995), and
With Strings (1997). He has collaborated extensively with notable jazz figures
