Francis Luther Crow, known professionally as Frank Luther, was born on August 4,
1899, in Lakin, Kansas. He began studying piano at age six and started vocal
training at thirteen. By sixteen, he toured the Midwest with a quartet called
The Meistersingers. In 1920, Luther married vocalist Zora Layman. From 1928 to
1932, Luther recorded country music with Carson Robison, achieving significant
popularity with songs like "Barnacle Bill the Sailor" and "When It's Springtime
