Franco Corelli
Franco Corelli, born Dario Franco Corelli on April 8, 1921 in Ancona, Italy, was
an operatic tenor known for his powerful voice. He initially studied naval
engineering but turned to opera after a music competition encouraged him to
pursue singing. Corelli made his debut in 1951 at Spoleto as Don José in Carmen
and gained prominence with his performance as Maurizio in Adriana Lecouvreur at
the Rome Opera in 1952. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Corelli performed at
major opera houses worldwide, including La Scala in Milan and the Royal Opera
