Steered by the group's charismatic leader Hiro, 19-member Japanese pop unit Exile (stylized as EXILE) formed in Tokyo in 1999 under the J Soul Brothers moniker before taking up their current name in 2001. Their debut album Our Style landed the following year, peaking at number five in Japan, and in 2003 the six original members of Exile launched their own management and entertainment company, LDH, putting out releases by an array of artists.
