Elena Durán was born on February 21, 1949 in Oakland, California. She is an
American flutist of Mexican descent who studied at Mills College and began her
teaching career at Stanford University at the age of twenty. After two years,
she left to continue her studies with Jean Pierre Rampal, Alain Marion, Aurèle
Nicolet, and James Galway in Europe. Duran's concert career spanned globally,
