French alternative rock band Eiffel was founded in Bordeaux in 1998 by guitarist and singer Romain Humeau. Taking its name from the song "Alec Eiffel " by the American band Pixies, rather than the Eiffel Tower, the band had previously existed for three years under the name Oobik & the Pucks.
