Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, an American alternative rock jam band, originated in Dallas, Texas, in 1985. The band's formation began with a trio featuring Brad Houser on vibraslap, Eric Presswood on guitar, and Brandon Aly on drums. Edie Brickell joined as the lead vocalist after being encouraged to perform onstage during a show. Their breakthrough came with the release of their debut album Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars in August 1988, which included the hit single "What I Am" that reached number 10 in the US.
