Edward James Cooley, born on April 15, 1933, in Atlanta, Georgia, was an
American singer-songwriter. In the mid-1950s, Cooley moved to New York City and
befriended Otis Blackwell, with whom he co-wrote "Fever". The song became a
Number 1 R&B hit when recorded by Little Willie John in 1956 and has since been
covered by numerous artists including Peggy Lee, Elvis Presley, Madonna, and
Beyoncé. Cooley also had a US pop hit in 1956 with "Priscilla", credited to
Eddie Cooley and the Dimples. He continued to collaborate on songs for musicians
