Earl Gaines
Earl Gaines Jr., born August 19, 1935, in Decatur, Alabama, was an American soul
blues and electric blues singer. After moving to Nashville, he joined Louis
Brooks' Hi-Toppers group, contributing to their hit single "It's Love Baby (24
Hours a Day)" which peaked at number 2 on the US Billboard R&B chart in 1955.
Gaines embarked on a solo career with minor successes like "The Best of Luck to
You" (1966) and "Hymn Number 5" (1973). He recorded for various labels including
