Richard Harrison Collins, also known as Dick Collins, was born on July 19, 1924,
in Seattle, and was an American jazz trumpeter. He studied under Red Nichols and
later with Darius Milhaud and Alexander Tansman in Paris, before earning a
master’s at the University of Southern California. Collins first performed with
Earl Gladman’s orchestra from 1938 to 40 and later with Dave Brubeck from 1946
to 47 and from 1949 to 1950, and Charlie Barnet in 1951. In 1955, he released
