Cómplices was formed in Spain in 1987 by Teo Cardalda and María Monsonís, both
previously associated with Golpes Bajos; the duo released their debut album
Manzanas in 1988, featuring the tracks "Dama del río" and "Serás mi cómplice".
Their follow‑up, Ángeles desangelados (1989), saw the departure of Tino di
Geraldo and Billy Villegas, leaving the pair as a tight duo. In 1990 they issued
La danza de la ciudad, from which the single "Es por ti" gained traction across
Mexico and Colombia, solidifying their presence in both Spain and Latin America.
