With his group Nação Zumbi, Chico Science is one of the main driving forces
behind the mango beat movement that took hold of Recife (Pernambuco) around
1991. Blending Nordeste and carnival rhythms with funk, rap and rock, mango
beat, along with samba reggae, was the starting point for Brazilian music at the
end of the twentieth century. Chico Science got off to a flying start withDa
