Catherine King, born in Newcastle, United Kingdom, was an English mezzo‑soprano
whose career spanned medieval to contemporary repertoire. She studied as a
choral scholar at Trinity College Cambridge, then at the Guildhall School of
Music and Drama, before refining her technique under Josephine Veasey and Janice
Chapman. King's breakthrough came through her work with Gothic Voices, where she
has been the only female member. King has premiered and recorded numerous
