Carmen Dragon was an American conductor, composer, and arranger born on July 28,
1914, in Antioch, California. While attending Antioch High School, he composed
the school song “Forward, Antioch!”, which was first performed in February 1930.
By 1935, Dragon had formed his own orchestra and began a prolific career in
radio, film, and television. He achieved significant acclaim for his orchestral
arrangements, particularly his version of “America the Beautiful”, and conducted
