Calvin Carter
Calvin Tollie Carter was an American record producer and songwriter who was born
in 1925. He joined Vee-Jay Records in 1953, serving as the label's principal A&R
executive and producer. During his tenure, Carter produced and directed
recording sessions for R&B artists including Elmore James, John Lee Hooker, and
Jimmy Reed. Vee-Jay Records became the first American record company to sign The
Beatles, and Carter also played a role in the development of The Four Seasons.
