Butch Hancock, born George Hancock on July 12, 1945, in Lubbock, Texas, is an
American songwriter and country singer. He co-founded the folk-country group
Flatlanders with Joe Ely and Jimmie Dale Gilmore in 1971. His compositions, such
as "She Never Spoke Spanish to Me" and "West Texas Waltz", gained recognition
through interpretations by other artists like Emmylou Harris and Jerry Jeff
Walker. His debut solo album, West Texas Waltzes and Dust-Blown Tractor Tunes,
