Singer and songwriter Bruno Brel was born in Brussels on September 24, 1951. He
is the nephew of Jacques Brel, who encouraged him in 1969 to pursue the
singer-guitarist career he had begun in 1967, keeping his own name. He performed
in a number of Brussels cabarets, and then moved to Paris to perform there. He
met Jacques Canetti, the producer of some of the biggest names in French
chanson, including his uncle, who signed him for the release of his first two
