Brewer Phillips, born on November 16, 1924, in Coila, Mississippi, was an American blues guitarist. Growing up on a plantation, he was introduced to blues music by Memphis Minnie and had the opportunity to see many blues greats perform live. After moving to Memphis, Phillips became a professional musician, playing with Bill Harvey and Roosevelt Sykes. In 1960, he joined The HouseRockers, the backing band for Hound Dog Taylor, where he often mimicked bass lines on his guitar due to the absence of a bassist in the group.
