Brewer Phillips, born on November 16, 1924, in Coila, Mississippi, was an
American blues guitarist. Growing up on a plantation, he was introduced to blues
music by Memphis Minnie and had the opportunity to see many blues greats perform
live. After moving to Memphis, Phillips became a professional musician, playing
with Bill Harvey and Roosevelt Sykes. In 1960, he joined The HouseRockers, the
backing band for Hound Dog Taylor, where he often mimicked bass lines on his
