Black Ivory is an American R&B group from Harlem, New York, formed in 1969. The
original members included Lawrence Newkirk, Froilan Ramirez, Michael Harris,
Leroy Burgess, and Stuart Bascombe. After lineup changes including the departure
of Harris and Newkirk, Russell Patterson joined Bascombe and Burgess to form the
trio known as Black Ivory. They won a talent show at Roosevelt High School and
released their first single, "Don't Turn Around" (1971), on Today Records. Their
debut album, Don't Turn Around (1972), reached number 13 on the Billboard R&B
