Barbara Gaskin is an English singer born on 5 June 1950 in Hatfield,
Hertfordshire. She began formal musical training in piano and cello at age ten
before teaching herself acoustic guitar in her teens. In 1969, she moved to
Canterbury to study Philosophy and Literature at the University of Kent and
joined the folk-prog band Spirogyra. The group released three studio albums,
including St. Radigunds and Bells, Boots and Shambles. Between 1973 and 1976,
