Backxwash
Real name Ashanti Mutinta, Zambian-Canadian rapper Backxwash was born in Lusaka,
Zambia, on October 4, 1991. Based in Montreal, her style is a cross between rap
and industrial music, and she has made a name for herself through the social
themes of her lyrics, linking sexual identity, religion and politics. After the
self-released EP F.R.E.A.K.S (2018) and album Deviancy (2019), Backxwash asserts
her personality in God Has Nothing to Do with This Leave Him Out of It (2020),
awarded the prestigious Polar Music Prize. Still on the shortlist, its successor
