Axel Stordahl, born August 8, 1913 in Staten Island, New York, was an American
arranger, composer, conductor, and orchestrator. Stordahl's career began as a
trumpeter in jazz bands playing around Long Island and the Catskills during the
late 1920s and early 1930s. Stordahl joined Anthony Fanzo's orchestra in both
arranging and trumpeting capacities in 1933. In 1936, Stordahl joined Tommy
Dorsey's new orchestra and became the band's main arranger, with their first big
hit “I'm Getting Sentimental Over You” appearing that same year. In January
