Art Pepper Quintet was an American jazz ensemble led by the alto saxophonist Art
Pepper. The group emerged in the 1950s and performed in the cool jazz and West
Coast jazz genres. Pepper’s recording history featured the studio albums Surf
Ride (1952) and The Return of Art Pepper (1956). The ensemble released the
recording Smack Up (1960) and the live album Live at Donte's 1968 (1968). During
his career, Pepper collaborated with musicians including Shorty Rogers on the
recording Complete Lighthouse Sessions (1951) and performed with Chet Baker.
