Anthony Rolfe Johnson, born on November 5, 1940 in Tackley, Oxfordshire, was a
British operatic tenor. He initially pursued an agricultural degree before
transitioning to singing. Johnson studied at the Guildhall School of Music and
Drama and made his major operatic debut as Count Vaudémont in Iolanta in 1973.
In 1975, he debuted at Glyndebourne as Lensky in Eugene Onegin, winning the John
Christie Award. Throughout his career, Johnson performed with major opera houses
