Born in Rheinfelden, Baden-Württemberg, on June 29, 1963, Anne-Sophie Mutter
grew up in Winterthur, Switzerland, and began learning the piano at the age of
five, then the violin, where she proved to be very gifted, winning the Jeunesses
Musicales federal competition. Noticed as early as the conservatory, she dropped
