Anaïs Mitchell, born March 26 1981 in Montpelier, Vermont, is an American
singer‑songwriter, guitarist, and pianist whose folk‑oriented compositions have
shaped contemporary narrative music. Early performances in local venues
established her as a storyteller, leading to the 2002 release of her debut album
The Song They Sang… When Rome Fell, which introduced her distinctive lyrical
voice. She followed with Hymns for the Exiled (2004) and The Brightness (2007),
each expanding her audience and refining her style. In 2010 she presented the
