Alice Gerrard, born July 8, 1934, in Seattle, Washington, is an American
bluegrass and old‑time musician who performs as a singer and guitarist, fiddle,
and banjo player. After studying at Antioch College and absorbing folk
traditions, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she entered the bluegrass
circuit and began recording. Her early collaboration with Hazel Dickens produced
albums like Who's That Knocking (1965) and Hazel & Alice (1973). Gerrard’s solo
releases include Pieces of My Heart (1994), Bittersweet (2013), and Sun to Sun
