Alan Ferber, born on January 18, 1975, in Oakland, California, is an American
trombonist, composer, and bandleader. From a young age, Ferber was immersed in
jazz through his grandmother's Broadway performances and later switched from
piano to trombone during high school. His early influences included Blue Note
Hardbop albums by J.J. Johnson, John Coltrane, and Art Blakey. After studying in
New York, Ferber began working as a session musician in the late 1990s,
