Al King
Al King, born Alvin K. Smith on 8 August 1923 in Monroe, Louisiana, was an
American blues singer who began performing in the San Francisco Bay Area after
World War II. He recorded early tracks for Hollywood Records in 1951 and later
worked with the Savoys. Recording under the pseudonym Al King, he signed with
Atlantic's Shirley label in 1964 and later recorded for Flag, Sahara, Modern,
Kent, and Ronn. His best-known songs included "Everybody Ain't Your Friend,"
"Don't Put Off for Tomorrow," and "Think Twice Before You Speak," which became
