João Rubinato, known professionally as Adoniran Barbosa, was born on August 6,
1910, in Valinhos, São Paulo, Brazil. He began his career as a singer and
composer after moving to São Paulo in 1933, performing at Cruzeiro do Sul radio
station. After several tries, he earned a contract for a weekly show after
performing "Filosofia" by Noel Rosa, and adopted a more Brazilian-sounding stage
name. In 1941, he joined Rádio Record, creating popular characters like
